Ready for Your First Bike To Work…

So this is your first ride from your house to your workplace. Dont get into hurry-scurry situation. If you have a friends that already have a lot of experience in this activity, a small conversation with him will be very helpfull. Some tips below can be useful for your first Bike To Work. Play safe and ride as comfortable as you can !

1. Find a friend to ride together for the first time, maybe you just heard some of your colleagues in your office chatter about cycling to work. You can start from here. Try to get involve into these kind of conversation and get more acquaintance. You can always ride alone, but if you can ride with friends it will be better and safer.

2. Understand the route from your house to your work place, this is more like surveillance task for you. You can start from taking a survey of your route, buy a map or just use Google map for your route. Remember that the fastest route is not always the safest route for your ride. Find and study as many as information of your commuting route before you ride is a must !

3. A good quality rest is a must before you ride in the morning, as previously mentioned above…PLAY SAFE AND RIDE AS COMFORTABLE AS YOU CAN.  Good rest will save your day.

4. Take a quick breakfast and prepare your drinks while riding on your bike, you need energy before you start your day ride. Add more carb and protein to your body 1-2 hours before you hit the terrain.

5. Prepare your Bike, still confuse what kind of bike you prefer for commuting ? You can use Mountain Bike, Hybrid Bike or even Folding Bike. However it depends on the type of terrain and the distance of cycling.  Some people would love to commute for about 40-50 km in one day trip and some people would like to commute less than 20-30 km in one day trip and then mix their daily  journey with public transportation. It’s all about mix and match, you can mix your bicycle type with your wheel/tyre type and size. If you ride mostly (let’s say 80 %- 90 %) on the hotmix/paving/concrete road, make sure you use slim and semi slick tyre. You will not need a fat tyre with off-road thread.  I’ve had a good experience with Maxxis Overdrive and Kenda Kwick Trax. I’m not promoting these particular brand, this is just a reference from my experience, you can find the same tyre type from other brands.

6. Prepare your Cycling Gears, helmet must be on the top list of your cycling gears. Make sure you use ahelmet with  standard safety for bicycle riding and the helmet fit to your head. Find the one that has a strap to your chin, and make sure it’s very conformtable when you wear it. A pack of bicyce tool kit and hand pump are always a good investment for your ride. Be prepare to bring head lamp/tail lamp and some reflective material, in case you ride late till night comes. Find a backpack or ordinary bag to fit in all of your gears into it and you can bring it when ever you have a bicycle ride.

Ok … now stop reading my blogs… just go out and ride your commuting session.
